Refining Journal Entry Data Processing Using Semi-Automated Workflow

In an audit, Journal Entry testing checks the completeness of Journal Entry data and the Filtering Criteria to detect fraud. In a prior study, Microsoft Excel was used to test Journal Entry data, which is effective for small and simple Journal Entry data, whereas for larger and more complex data, Excel might have some challenges in performing it. This study is a solution to the requirement for applications that can handle more complicated data. Owing to the repetitive effort in the completeness check, Alteryx was chosen because it can automate data processing using a workflow and provide business insights. The workflow developed using Alteryx was tested by the author on the effectiveness and efficiency of preparing Journal Entry testing data. The result of the testing shows that using the Alteryx workflow method is preferable rather than Microsoft Excel due to the time saved by using the semi-automated workflow.
