Performance Comparison of Relational Database Management Systems for Processing Large Amount of Text Data

This study presents a comparative performance analysis of the 4 most frequently used and recognized RDBMSs, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle with an increasing amount of testing data. The amount of data tested ranged from 1,000,000 to 5,000,000 records where tests were systematically conducted to evaluate query execution time and memory usage as performance metrics. All tests were performed in a controlled virtual machine using Python to ensure consistency and repeatability. The results of the tests shed light on different performance patterns across RDBMSs with some systems showing superior speed on smaller datasets and others showing better scalability as the amount of data increases. This study provides valuable guidance for practitioners and researchers in selecting the most suitable RDBMS for data processing tasks based on specific performance priorities.
