Comprehensive analytical framework for harmonic behavior study of a PMSM under inter-turn short-circuit faults
We present an analytical framework for understanding the impact of Inter-Turn Short-Circuit (ITSC) faults on the harmonics of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) signals. We propose a complete analytical expression of machine currents and voltages, for both open and closed loops, based on a Fourier decomposition, as a function of machine parameters and key fault-specific parameters. This framework enables us to understand how current and voltage harmonics are impacted by both the fault and the machine parameters, and can therefore help us to understand the possibilities of detecting ITSC faults through harmonics monitoring for a given detection threshold.
