Performance evaluation of nano cutting fluids under MQL technique in turning of duplex stainless steel-2205

Abstract Duplex stainless steels (DSSs) offer high strength compared to common austenitic stainless steels; however, the current need for rapid production of high-quality parts in bulk quantities has led to high competitiveness. So, characterizations of machining process parameters of DSS are essential. The present work focused on the Performance Evaluation of Nano cutting fluids of three different Nano particles of Aluminium oxide(Al 2 O 3 ), Copper oxide(CuO) and Silicon carbide(SiC) with the base fluid of Deionized water(DI water) under MQL technique in turning of DSS-2205. Nanofluids are prepared using a two-step method, dispersing the nanoparticles with DI water in different concentrations, 0.3%, 0.5% and 0.7%. The experimentation was conducted based on response surface methodology (RSM) of central composite factorial design (CCF) in varying % of volume concentration of nanoparticles, speed, feed, and depth of cut. Multilinear Regression analysis was employed to estimate the response of cutting force, cutting temperature, and surface roughness. ANOVA was used to examine the influence of machining parameters on the cutting force, cutting temperature, and surface roughness. The result shows that the cutting forces were reduced under nanoparticle inclusion compared to normal fluid, and the best results are obtained for copper oxide nanoparticles.
