Evaluation of Role of Piezosurgery in Rhinoplasty: A Prospective Observational Study

Introduction: Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic procedure which requires precise surgical techniques for preservation of delicate bone and soft tissues. Prolonged edema, ecchymosis and pain in postoperative period caused by soft tissue damage is very unpleasant for the patient. Over the time, advancement of using piezoelectric instrumentation in rhinoplasty has been found to be safe, delicate and accurate in comparison to manual instrumentation. Objectives: To observe the postoperative outcomes in patient undergoing piezoelectric rhinoplasty. Methodology: All patients were assessed during post-operative period (Day 1, 7, 30 and 90), for the level of edema, ecchymosis and pain as per Kara et al., Caglar et al. and Numerical Rating Scale (score 1 to 10) respectively. Results: Our observation in 13 patients revealed mean scores as Kara score (1.80 0.82), Caglar score (3.73 2.73) and NRS score (3.07 0.76) on post-operative day 1. The mean scores decreased on further follow up at post-operative day 7 and completely resolved on subsequent follow ups at one month and three months.
