Power system planning scheme evaluation with high share of renewable energy using a combined subjective-objective approach

With the low-carbon transition of energy systems, the integration of high share of renewable energy introduces intermittency and stochasticity to power systems, increasing source and load uncertainty and challenging the reliability and economy. Traditional evaluation methods for power system planning scheme evaluation are insufficient with high share of renewable energy. Hence, this paper presents a combined subjective-objective approach: 1) A five-dimensional index system (economics, renewable integration level, renewable absorption capability, reliability, and capability of supply assurance) is built, with parameters obtained via full-scenario simulations to reflect renewable energy system characteristics. 2) Objective algorithms optimize AHP-derived subjective weights using a nonlinear model incorporating output variability, with multi-initial-point optimization balancing expert judgment and data. Case studies based on the HRP-38 test system and a Chinese provincial grid validate the method’s effectiveness and practicality. By bridging the subjective-objective analysis, the proposed method can evaluate and determine power system planning schemes with high share of renewable energy.
