Determinants of Quality of Life Among Elderly in a Social Care Center: Emphasis on Sleep
<ns3:p> Background The aging population worldwide has led to increased attention toward ensuring a good quality of life (QoL) among the elderly, particularly those residing in long-term care facilities. This study aims to identify the determinants of quality of life among elderly residents in a social care center in West Jakarta. Method This quantitative study employed a descriptive cross-sectional design involving 288 elderly residents from a social care center. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring sleep behavior, medication adherence, nutritional intake, infection prevention, physical activity, and QoL. Results The results indicated that sleep behavior was significantly associated with QoL ( <ns3:italic>p</ns3:italic> = 0.002), whereas no statistically significant associations were found between QoL and other variables, including medication adherence, nutritional intake, infection prevention, and physical activity. Conclusion Sleep quality is a significant determinant of QoL among institutionalized elderly individuals. These findings suggest that sleep behavior should be prioritized in care strategies to improve the quality of life of elderly residents in long-term care. </ns3:p>
