New Aureus of Roman Empress Herennia Etruscilla Found in Gąski (Kuyavia, Poland)
The article concerns a hitherto unpublished coin find from Gąski (Inowrocław County, Gniewkowo distr.), discovered in 2009 by archeologists from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Aureus in the barbarised type was struck during the reign of Emperor Trajan Decius for his wife, Herennia Etruscilla. The coin has a hole typical of aureus found in Barbaricum, indicating its extra-monetary use. It belongs to a group of only a few coins of this type found in the area of the Przeworsk culture, where it ended up as part of the loot most likely as a result of the Romans losing the battle against the Goths at Abrittus in 251 AD, when the emperor himself was killed.
