Effect of Novel Microalga‐Magnesium Amino Clay Nanoparticles on Municipal Wastewater Treatment and Pigments Production: An Integrated Approach

ABSTRACT This experimental study evaluates the behaviour of newly isolated microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana pa.91 grown in raw municipal wastewater with different concentrations of Magnesium Amino Clay Nano Particles (MgAC‐NPs). The growth pattern of C. sorokiniana pa.91 to varying concentrations of MgAC‐NPs at 0.0–1.0 g/L was investigated. Results showed that at a 0.2 g/L concentration, biomass concentration increased by 67.8% during 14‐day cultivation. The effect of MgAC‐NPs on the cell growth rate and the cell size was 0.2 1/day and 0.3–0.5 μm, respectively. Additionally, the results of MgAC‐NPs adding show a removal efficiency of 96%, 90.6% and 91.1% for chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia (NH 3 ) and phosphate (PO 4 −3 ), respectively. The results showed that adding MgAC‐NPs increased the removal efficiency for COD by 20%, but its effects on the removal efficiency of nutrients were insignificant.
