Dual-Key PNIPAM Hydrogel with Thermal Transition and Fluorescence Signals for Layered Information Encryption

Today, the problems of counterfeiting and information leaks are becoming increasingly severe. Traditional anti-counterfeiting technologies struggle to provide comprehensive and effective security protection. For this reason, in this study, we innovatively combined anthracene as a fluorescent unit with a thermochromic hydrogel to successfully develop a PNIPAM composite with dual encryption functions of temperature and fluorescence. By precisely controlling the content of functionalized anthracene groups, the low critical solution temperature (LCST) is accurately maintained within the range of 29.0–32.0 °C. Furthermore, the photodimerization properties of the anthracene groups enable the material to achieve a fluorescence quenching/recovery efficiency exceeding 90%, thus expanding its application prospects in the field of anti-counterfeiting. Double encryption mechanism of composite materials: when the temperature exceeds LCST, the reversible transparent/opaque transition of the polymer realizes initial encryption. Anthracene functionalization completes the writing of information and reading via UV fluorescence at specific temperatures. Information identification requires dual conditions (near-LCST temperature and UV irradiation), enhancing anti-counterfeiting security. This technology works for information delivery and anti-counterfeiting labels, effectively curbing leakage and counterfeiting. Combined with the temperature and UV sensors of smart devices, it can also realize automatic identification and verification of encrypted information, enhancing the intelligence and convenience of anti-counterfeiting technology.
