Investigating the fragmentation of charm quarks with correlation and jet measurements by ALICE

Fragmentation functions are traditionally obtained via parametrization of measurements performed at particle colliders (typically e + e − and e − p collisions) due to their non-perturbative nature. However, some recent results challenge their universality across collision systems. This contribution presents heavy-flavour tagged jet and correlation measurements, providing insights into heavy-quark production, fragmentation, and hadronization. Results include the p T -differential cross section of D 0 -tagged jets, jet momentum fractions for D 0 mesons and Λ c + baryons, and azimuthal correlations in pp collisions. These studies probe the angular structure, momentum, and multiplicity of heavy-flavour tagged jets, and explore charm-quark hadronization into mesons versus baryons. This article highlights LHC Run 2 results and discusses prospects for LHC Run 3 and future developments.
