CONTROL AND TUNING OF AN ACTIVE TOWER DAMPING CONTROLLER
The accurate assessment of loads in a wind turbine is crucial to ensuring the lifespan of its components. This is a key concern for wind turbine manufacturers, as failures or premature shortening of the service life of turbine components could result in serious non-compliance issues for these companies. For this reason, it is of particular interest to wind turbine manufacturers to employ or implement control strategies that reduce turbine loads, allowing operation for at least the full expected service life while maintaining production quality standards. One of the main sources of stress and load arises from oscillations in the components, primarily the tower and blades. This article presents the tuning of a pitch control system to address fore-aft tower oscillations using modeling and pole placement. The aim of this work is to lay the foundation for more advanced tuning approaches in the future.
