Caballeronia eucalypticola sp. nov., isolated from the xylem tissues of eucalyptus

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, ovoid or rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, motile with peritrichous flagella bacterium, designated strain N3-1-1-11T, was isolated from the xylem tissues of <i>Eucalyptus grandis</i> × <i>Eucalyptus urophylla</i> in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, China. Optimal growth occurred at 28 °C, at pH 6.0 and in the presence of 0-1% (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that N3-1-1-11T was clustered with species of the genus <i>Caballeronia</i> and formed a distinct sublineage, showing the highest similarities to <i>Caballeronia mineralivorans</i> PML1(12)T (98.48%), <i>Caballeronia udeis</i> LMG 27134T (97.99%) and <i>Caballeronia sordidicola</i> LMG 22029T (97.86%). The predominant ubiquinone is Q-8. The major fatty acids are C16 : 0, C17 : 1 <i> ω5c</i>, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 <i> ω6c</i> and/or C16 : 1 <i> ω7c</i>) and C18 : 1 <i> ω7c</i>. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and aminophospholipid. The DNA G+C content was 59.33 mol%. The phylogenetic analysis and physiological and biochemical data showed that strain N3-1-1-11T should be classified as representing a novel species in the genus <i>Caballeronia</i>, for which the name <i>Caballeronia eucalypticola</i> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of <i>C. eucalypticola</i> is N3-1-1-11T (=CFCC 15711T=CGMCC 1.65219T=KCTC 8740T).
