Demonstration of Miexciton: enhancement of light–matter interaction in monolayer WS 2 on a Si metasurface
Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) semiconductors are promising for photonic and optoelectronic applications, but their atomic thickness limits photon harvesting. Here, we demonstrate the Miexciton hybrid states arising from intermediate coherent coupling between monolayer WS2 excitons and Mie resonances in a dielectric Huygens silicon metasurface. Spectroscopic measurements show a Rabi splitting of ~81 meV, closely matching simulations, corresponding to WS2 absorption exceeding 0.62. Photoluminescence reveals an 18-fold enhancement in emission intensity relative to WS2 on quartz, driven by strong near-field confinement and an increased optical density of states. This approach provides a robust pathway to boost excitonic absorption and emission, advancing integrated optoelectronic platforms based on atomically thin crystals.
