Filler-enhanced conductive elastomers for next-generation electronics applications: a short review

The growing interest in materials with high electrical conductivity and superior mechanical flexibility directs intense attention to conductive polymeric composites made from non-conducting polymers by incorporating conductive fillers. Elastomers, known for their versatile properties such as elasticity, self-healing ability, high durability, and abrasion resistance, have become a key focus of research and application. The type of conductive fillers and the techniques for filler mixing play a critical role in enhancing both the electrical properties and the overall robustness of elastomers, making them increasingly suitable for use in modern electronic devices. This article spans around the the recent advancements in the techniques for filler incorporation and types of filler materials,, their impact on property enhancements, and the potential applications of conductive elastomers in areas such as self-powered sensors, EMI shielding, antistatic applications, etc. The future perspectives are also included in this review, exploring the potential directions for further advancements in conductive elastomers for advanced electronic devices.
