4 Egyptian and Saudi Migration Policies
This study seeks to assess the migration policies in Egypt and Saudi Arabia following the 2009 stance on migration approved by the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Therefore, the study’s primary focus is to determine how much migration policies in Egypt and Saudi Arabia align with the IFRC’s approach on migration. Using the content analysis method, the study focused on the following issues: migrants’ needs and vulnerabilities, support of migrants’ aspirations, recognition of rights, creation of partnerships to provide aid, facilitation of pathways for regular migration, help with repatriation, and provision of support to receiving countries and communities. Having examined the implementation of migration policies in both Egypt and Saudi Arabia, this study shows that they have successfully followed the indicators outlined in the IFRC’s approach on migration. This assessment considers the challenges of high numbers of migrants and refugees amid regional instability and ongoing conflicts. The two countries tried to find a middle ground between their security and humanitarian strategies, addressing the needs and goals of migrants while respecting international laws, safeguarding the needs and aspirations of their citizens and maintaining national security.
