Tools and Assessment Plans for Effective Teaching and Learning in a Surveying Lab Session
Lab sessions are the essential part of a surveying class; however, having every student understand equipment operation and lab procedures has always been challenging. The authors propose to integrate multimedia tools into the instructional approach for enhancing the surveying class’s effectiveness. To be specific, prerecorded or online videos are distributed to students for pre-lab preparation, while in-class demonstrations utilizing PowerPoint slides with animations elucidate lab procedures. The assessment strategy involves real-time evaluation of students’ equipment operation during the lab, complemented by post-lab online quizzes to reinforce and consolidate learning. Overall, the integration of the learning tools and assessment plans can significantly improve students’ learning experience in a surveying lab session.
