A RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND SURGICAL OUTCOME OF SPINAL DYSRAPHISM IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE
Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the clinical presentation and surgical outcome in spinal dysraphism patients. Materials And Methods: This study was a retrospective study conducted between in all patients admitted in neurosurgery department. Result: Incidence was high in females(52.5%) than males(47.5%). Open type(62.5%) was more common than closed type(37.5%). The most common site of occurrence is lumbosacral region(42.5%). The most common nding was meningomyelocele in 18 cases(45%). The most common associated anomaly was hydrocephalus present in 15 cases(37.5%), followed by Arnold Chiari malformation type II in 9 cases(22.5%). Motor weakness was present in 18 cases preoperatively out of which 11 cases improved postoperatively. Sensory decits and sphincter dysfunction did not improve and remained static in majority of cases postoperatively. Conclusion: Spinal dysraphism is the most common cause of congenital disability in children. Surgery remains the main modality of treatment along with good postoperative care for better outcomes
