How Spectroscopy is Revolutionizing Batteries, Fuel Cells, and Corrosion Protection
Abstract This article examines advanced spectroscopic techniques for characterizing carbon-based materials at the molecular level. Raman spectroscopy identifies structural defects and phase transformations through phonon analysis, infrared spectroscopy reveals functional groups and surface layers, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy provides quantitative elemental composition and oxidation state data for understanding surface reactivity. These complementary methods enable systematic optimization of material performance and extended device lifetimes across diverse applications, including batteries, fuel cells, and corrosion-resistant coatings. The work demonstrates how integrating advanced analytical methodologies with materials science advances the development of efficient and sustainable energy systems.
