Etchant Containing Snf2 And Polyvinylpyrrolidone To Improve Dentin Bonding

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of acid etching agents containing stannous fluoride and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) on dentin bonding. SnF2-PVP containing etchants were developed by adding stannous fluoride and PVP to a 35% phosphoric acid aqueous solution. The etchant of the control group (C) was 35% phosphoric acid gel. Experimental groups were: E1(15% SnF2), E2(10% PVP) and E3(15% SnF2+10% PVP). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), microhardness, antierosion, and antibacterial tests were performed on the treated dentin. Moreover, the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of each group was tested, and the fracture mode was determined after testing. Statistical analysis was performed with the 2-way ANOVA test (α=.05). The exposed collagen fiber was observed in group C, and minerals were formed on the dentin in the group E1 and E3. SEM, FTIR, and the microhardness test indicated more remineralization in the E3 groups. The µTBS of E3 was the highest in all groups, and group C was the lowest. Etchant containing SnF2 and PVP reduce dentin demineralization, and were more conducive to the long-term stability of dentin bonding compared to acid etchants containing SnF2 or PVP alone. The study offered new strategies for improving dentin bonding.
