A Case Report: Robot-Assisted Lateral Maxillary Sinus Lift Surgery

Manual sinus lifts carry risks such as membrane perforation and vascular injury. To improve the success rate of lateral maxillary sinus floor elevation, digital technology has been widely applied. However, static guides and dynamic navigation still face challenges such as insufficient accuracy and limited intraoperative dynamic adjustment capabilities. Leveraging high-precision positioning and real-time force feedback, robotic systems provide innovative solutions for precise osteotomy and implantation. Objective: To evaluate the accuracy and clinical efficacy of robot-assisted lateral window preparation using robotic machine vision and force feedback. A female patient presented with a missing tooth #16. Preoperative CBCT imaging revealed insufficient bone volume at the #16 site, with an average residual bone height of 3.5 mm, necessitating sinus lift surgery. The procedure was performed using the YakeBot (YakeWisdom Co., China) to complete sinus lift surgery and implant placement at the #16 site. The robot successfully assisted in completing the bony window without membrane perforation. Radiographic analysis revealed an 88.3% overlap rate between the preoperative design and the postoperative lateral window. Robotic assistance, through high-precision osteotomy and real-time force feedback control, reduces Intraoperative complications while achieving accuracy in bone window preparation and implant placement. Compared to static guides or dynamic navigation, the robotic system’s dynamic adaptability proves advantages in complex anatomical scenarios, validating its clinical value in combined bone augmentation and implant surgery. Robotic assistance represents a significant advancement in implantology, offering improved safety and predictability for patients requiring complex bone augmentation.
