Apexification With Amnion Matrix And Mta Apical Barrier Clinical Results
To evaluate the clinical outcome of the apexification procedure using mineral trioxide aggregate apical plug with amniotic membrane as internal matrix for the root end closure 10 cases of non-vital permanent teeth with immature apex underwent conventional endodontic therapy were treated for apexification procedure. Following local anesthesia and rubber dam isolation, conventional root canal treatment was initiated. Access cavities were prepared. The cleaning and shaping procedure was performed with ProTaper hand files up to size F3. The root canals were irrigated with 3% Sodium hypochlorite and two rounds of calcium hydroxide dressing were placed for a period of 2 weeks. At the subsequent appointment, the calcium hydroxide dressing was removed. The canals were dried using paper points and then amniotic membrane (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India) plug was placed at the apex. The canals were filled with sterile cotton and temporized for two weeks. Following this, the entire root canal was obturated with Mineral trioxide Aggregate. Final restoration was done at subsequent visit with composite resin. All the teeth were followed at intervals of 1month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. All the cases with permanent immature teeth with open apices were treated in which all the protocols of apexification procedure were followed. All the cases treated showed signs of healing both clinically and radiographically. Amniotic membrane is a regenerative substance used in apexification to close open apices in 2 weeks. This membrane is safe for apexifying immature teeth without any adverse effects.
