Establish A Mouse Model Of Traumatic Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis
To establish a mouse model of traumatic temporomandibular joint ankylosis (TTMJA) in C57/BL6 mice through a combined trauma approach. 42C57/BL6 mice were randomly divided into two groups. The experimental group(n=21)underwent surgery for the left temporomandibular joint (TMJ) model, while the control group(n=21)was raised normally without any special treatment. All the experiments in this study were approved (Approval Number : 2024-kq-008). At 12 weeks after surgery, both groups were evaluated for the TMJ complex through general examination, gross observation,Micro-CT,and tissue staining to assess the establishment of the model. Compared with the control group, the mouth opening degree of the experimental group mice significantly decreased at 12 weeks after surgery (P < 0.05). Gross observation and Micro-CT showed irregular hyperplasia of the left TMJ complex, blurred joint space, and interstitial interweaving of immature and mature bone tissues. Histological staining revealed ectopic cartilage and calcified bone tissue in the joint space, forming bone bridges. In this experiment, the TTMJA model of C57/BL6 mice was successfully established through the method of combined trauma, providing an experimental platform for studying the disease mechanism.
