Research On A Novel Method For VRF Tooth Preservation
Propose a novel therapeutic approach for verticall root fractured (VRF)tooth preservation, with fracture resistance evaluation via Finite element analysis(FEA) and ex vivo mechanical testing. 1. The FEA models of maxillary premolars with periodontal tissues were established using CBCT data and professional software, followed by software-generated modifications to create the VRF tooth and the root-reinforced VRF tooth with corresponding periodontal structures. Stress distribution disparities and crack propagation impacts in root dentin were analyzed through static FEM and XFEM. 2. Intact maxillary premolars were collected and randomly divided into three groups: intact group, VRF group, and root-reinforced VRF group. Customized root reinforcement devices were fabricated via 3D printing technology utilizing pure titanium, while fracture load magnitudes were measured via ex vivo mechanical testing. 1. VRF adversely affect stress distribution in apical dentin, generating additional stress concentration at crack tips that predisposes to further propagation. 2. Root reinforcement devices protect fractured roots by equalizing apical stress distribution, retarding crack progression, and enhancing fracture resistance. The root reinforcement device developed by our research team may mitigate adverse apical stress distribution caused by VRF, delay crack propagation, and enhance tooth fracture resistance.
