Microelemental Analysis Of The Ancient Teeth Using Scanning Electron Microscopy

To analyse the mineral composition of dental hard tissues at different depths in cases of caries, non-carious lesions and periodontitis. Teeth of ancient people from X to XX centuries and modern people were prepared for microanalysis. Preparation was carried out by mechanical cleaning, photographing using confocal laser microscope LEICA TCS SPE (Leica, Germany) and polarization research system, pouring in epoxy resin, creation of the slices using grinding-polishing machine LaboPol-30 (Struers A/S, Denmark), application of carbon film using high-precision carbon duster for the Q150T E scanning microscopy. The analysis of the microelement composition of teeth tissues carried out using Benchtop Scanning Electron Microscope-microanalyzer TM 3000 (Hitachi, Japan) in 3 layers: surface, middle and deep layers of enamel, dentin and cement. Microelements were quantified in the surface, middle and deep layers of enamel, dentin and cement teeth. The variability of the mineral composition and its dependence on exogenous factors and nozoological form of disease were observed. The method of layer-by-layer research allows to determine the atomic composition of the studied samples locally.
