Clinical Outcomes Of C-Root In Elderly Root Canal Treatment

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of C-Root SP bioceramic sealer combined with single-cone (SC), warm vertical compaction (WVC), or cold lateral condensation (CLC) techniques versus iRoot sp with SC (control) in nonsurgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) for elderly patients. In this randomized trial, 240 patients aged ≥60 were divided into four groups: Group A (C-Root SP+SC), B (C-Root SP+WVC), C (C-Root SP+CLC), and D (iRoot SP+SC, control). Root canal filling was performed 7–10 days after preparation. Obturation duration, filling length (postoperative radiographs), postoperative pain (days 1, 2, 7), and 1-year outcomes (clinical signs, periapical index [PAI]) were analyzed. Groups A and D exhibited significantly shorter obturation times than B and C (P < 0.001). Filling lengths were comparable across groups (P > 0.05). Postoperative pain decreased progressively, with Group A reporting significantly lower pain incidence on day 1 (P < 0.05). At 1 year, success rates ranged 91.23–94.83% (PAI reduction: P < 0.05 vs. baseline), with no intergroup differences (P > 0.05). C-Root SP paired with SC, WVC, or CLC achieved comparable outcomes to iRoot SP+SC in filling quality, success rates, and periapical healing. However, SC combined with C-Root SP improved clinical efficiency and reduced early postoperative pain, suggesting its preferential use in elderly NSRCT.

Abstract

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of C-Root SP bioceramic sealer combined with single-cone (SC), warm vertical compaction (WVC), or cold lateral condensation (CLC) techniques versus iRoot sp with SC (control) in nonsurgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) for elderly patients. In this randomized trial, 240 patients aged ≥60 were divided into four groups: Group A (C-Root SP+SC), B (C-Root SP+WVC), C (C-Root SP+CLC), and D (iRoot SP+SC, control). Root canal filling was performed 7–10 days after preparation. Obturation duration, filling length (postoperative radiographs), postoperative pain (days 1, 2, 7), and 1-year outcomes (clinical signs, periapical index [PAI]) were analyzed. Groups A and D exhibited significantly shorter obturation times than B and C (P < 0.001). Filling lengths were comparable across groups (P > 0.05). Postoperative pain decreased progressively, with Group A reporting significantly lower pain incidence on day 1 (P < 0.05). At 1 year, success rates ranged 91.23–94.83% (PAI reduction: P < 0.05 vs. baseline), with no intergroup differences (P > 0.05). C-Root SP paired with SC, WVC, or CLC achieved comparable outcomes to iRoot SP+SC in filling quality, success rates, and periapical healing. However, SC combined with C-Root SP improved clinical efficiency and reduced early postoperative pain, suggesting its preferential use in elderly NSRCT.
