Sealing Performance Of Croot Vs Iroot In Complex Canals
This study aimed to compare the sealing ability of a calcium silicate-based root canal sealer (iRoot) and a strontium silicate-based sealer (Croot) in 2-1 type root canals, using Micro-CT analysis to assess the quality of root canal fillings. Twenty extracted human teeth with 2-1 type root canal morphology were prepared and divided into two groups. Group 1 was filled using iRoot, and Group 2 used Croot. All canals were obturated using the single-cone technique. Micro-CT imaging was employed to evaluate total filling rates and sealer penetration at 3mm, 6mm, and 9mm levels from the apex. Quantitative and statistical analyses were conducted to compare the two groups. There were no statistically significant differences between iRoot and Croot in total filling rates or in any of the three canal levels. Croot achieved a total filling rate of 94.8%, while iRoot had 93.9%. Slightly higher porosity was observed in the middle and coronal thirds with Croot, though not statistically significant. Both sealers demonstrated effective sealing in anatomically complex root canals. Croot demonstrated a sealing performance comparable to the gold standard iRoot in 2-1 type root canals, suggesting it is a viable and cost-effective alternative. Further research is needed to evaluate its flow characteristics, sealing ability in other canal morphologies, and clinical long-term performance.
