Mechanical Analysis Of Bamp On Sutures In Class ⅲ Asymmetry
A finite element method was used to investigate the biomechanical effects of BAMP on a skeletal Class Ⅲ with mandibular asymmetry model under different traction orientations. The CT data of a 13-year-old male patient with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion and asymmetry were selected in 2023. Subsequently, an integrated approach utilizing Mimics, Geomagic Wrap, Solidworks, and ANSYS Workbench softwares were employed to construct a finite element analyses. Two loading conditions were investigated: Condition 1 featured maxillary hooks extending to the buccal side between the second premolar and the first molar, while Condition 2 featured maxillary hooks extending to the buccal side between the first molar and the second molar. In both conditions, the mandibular hooks were extended to the buccal side of the canine. The magnitudes of Von-Mises stress in the sutures were compared between the two designs. A FEM was established, incorporating 8 craniofacial bones, 13 sutures, 2 articular discs. In Condition 1, the suture experiencing the highest stress was the PMS on the contralateral side of asymmetry (0.044 MPa), while the suture with the lowest stress was the ZTS on the side of asymmetry (0.006 MPa). In Condition 2, the suture with the highest stress was the PMS on the contralateral side of asymmetry (0.059 MPa), and the suture with the lowest stress was the NMS on the side of asymmetry (0.006 MPa). BAMP has demonstrated efficacy in improving skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion with mandibular asymmetry. The PMS exhibits a more pronounced bone remodeling effect.
