One- Vs Two-Step Iroot Bp: Apical Microleakage

To compare the apical sealing efficacy of iRoot BP bioceramic apical barrier between immediate (Group A) and delayed (Group B) thermoplasticized gutta-percha obturation. Sixty extracted single-rooted premolars were randomly assigned to four groups (n=15 each): Group A (iRoot BP apical barrier with immediate obturation), Group B (iRoot BP apical barrier with obturation after 2 days), positive control (vertical compaction with thermoplasticized gutta-percha), and negative control (no obturation). After root canal preparation, the coronal 3 mm was sealed with resin and nail polish. Samples were immersed in 1% methylene blue for 7 days, sectioned longitudinally, and dye penetration length (mm) was measured. No statistically significant difference in microleakage was observed between Group A and Group B. The positive control showed significantly greater leakage, while the negative control demonstrated complete microleakage. The sealing performance of iRoot BP apical barrier is not influenced by immediate or delayed obturation, suggesting both protocols are clinically viable for minimizing apical microleakage.
