Mucograft For Wider Implant Keratinized Gingiva: A Case Report
Numerous studies have shown that an adequately wide zone of keratinized gingiva is beneficial for the long - term stability of dental implants. Using collagen matrix (Geistlich Mucograft) for keratinized gingiva augmentation is a new surgical technique. A middle - aged female patient completed the implant placement of tooth 46 in our hospital 4 months ago. She came for a follow - up visit for keratinized gingiva augmentation. Examination revealed that the gingiva in the edentulous area of tooth 46 had healed well, with a keratinized gingiva width of only 1 - 2 mm. X - ray showed good osseointegration of the implant in tooth 46. We performed keratinized gingiva augmentation for the patient using Mucograft. The final restoration was completed 4 months later, and the newly formed keratinized gingival tissue was healthy and stable. Free gingival grafting is the standard procedure for keratinized gingiva augmentation, but it requires a second surgical site. Using Mucograft can simplify the procedure, reduce patient discomfort, and the color and texture of the regenerated area match and coordinate better with the surrounding tissues. Mucograft may be an ideal alternative to free gingival grafting.
