Risk Management Of Rampant Caries And MDT Sequence Treatment
Rampant caries can cause severe dental problems. Risk assessment helps identify high-risk individuals, enabling early prevention. MDT sequence treatment restores dental function, improves oral health, and prevents complications. A young female presented with rampant caries. Diagnosis revealed rampant caries and various tooth defects. After a detailed caries risk assessment and caries activity assessment, a series of MDT sequence treatment were implemented, including resin filling, root canal treatment, and orthodontic treatment to adjust the occlusal relationship for optimal occlusion and restoration space. Finally, post-root canal restoration and necessary dental implant were carried out. For patients with rampant caries, a caries risk assessment should be conducted first, and then risk factor management should be carried out. Through the management of caries risk factors, the progression of caries can be controlled. A comprehensive caries diagnosis should be made based on the caries risk assessment. This diagnosis should indicate the likelihood of new caries occurrence and the progression of existing ones according to the severity and activity of the existing caries lesions. The formulation of a comprehensive caries management plan should start from the overall oral health of the patient, predict the risks related to the occurrence of caries, and adopt corresponding comprehensive measures. Through personalized interventions, various factors affecting the occurrence and development of caries are managed to restore the oral microecological balance. Meanwhile, our research group has conducted basic research on the occurrence and development of microecological imbalance.
