The Efficacy Of Clear Functional Appliances In Adolescent Mandibular Retrognathism
This study evaluates skeletal, dental, and soft tissue changes induced by S8-SGTB versus Twin-Block appliances in adolescents with mandibular retrognathism, providing evidence for clinical decision-making. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, adolescent patients with Adolescents (n=39; 17 males, 22 females) meeting inclusion criteria underwent functional treatment. CBCT and 3D facial scans at pre-treatment (T0), appliance placement (T1), and post-treatment (T2) were analyzed using Dolphin Imaging and Blender. Skeletal, dental, and soft tissue parameters were measured. Statistical analysis was performed via SPSS 25.0. Ethical approval was obtained. Both appliances significantly improved SNB, Wits, overjet, and soft tissue profiles (p<0.05). Skeletal contributions to overjet correction were 39.35% (S8-SGTB) vs. 39.43% (TB). S8-SGTB demonstrated better lower incisor control (L1-MP: Δ2.1° vs. Δ4.5°, p<0.05) with comparable mandibular advancement. No intergroup differences in skeletal rotation or facial height changes were observed. S8-SGTB achieves equivalent mandibular advancement to Twin-Block while minimizing lower incisor proclination, offering a balanced skeletal-dentoalveolar correction for retrognathism.
