Biofunctional Prosthetic System Integrated With T-Scan: A Case Report
T-scan occlusal analysis system now offers a new method to evaluate the effect of biofunctional prosthetic system(BPS) denture, which has traditionally been a challenge to be quantified. A 74-year-old female patient with a loose complete denture which had worn for about ten years visited the clinic. Except 28, all other teeth were missing, with residual alveolar ridge of Atwood ClassⅢ.Radiography revealed generalized alveolar bone resorption throughout the entire dentition. BPS restoration was selected based on the patient's age, adaptability, denture space, and socioeconomic factors. Three months after the extraction of 28, the BPS fabrication commenced and definitive denture completed following five appointments. T-scan(Tekscan, Inc.; South Boston, MA, USA) provided dynamic occlusal force mapping to enable precise clinical adjustments. At the one-month follow-up, T-Scan analysis revealed balanced bilateral occlusal forces, broad occlusal contacts and uniform force distribution compared to the previous prosthesis. Previous studies assessed occlusal conditions through examining denture stability and measuring masticatory efficiency, which lack more intuitive and concise assessment indicators. The application of T-scan in BPS denture restorations for edentulous patients not only guides the occlusal adjustment process during denture try-in, but provides a more objective and precise assessment method for occlusal force distribution. With the accelerating aging population trend, complete dentures remain an irreplaceable prosthodontic solution. The integration of T-scan with BPS could enhance precision in occlusal design, optimize functional aesthetics, and provide an advanced diagnostic tool for prosthodontic clinics.
