Active-Wing Lingual Appliance For Secondary Bone Fenestration Correction
To demonstrate the efficacy of active-wing lingual appliance in correcting bone fenestration and improving torque control during secondary orthodontic treatment. A previously treated adolescent with labial appliances presented with persistent spacing, poor torque, and upper anterior bone fenestration. Active-wing lingual appliances were used for 16 months, achieving space closure, proper occlusion, torque correction, and facial profile enhancement. Post-treatment CBCT confirmed restored alveolar bone integrity. The appliance's unique design—anterior brackets consisted of a lingual-bonded base and a retractable active-wings—enabled precise torque control and alveolar bone remodeling, proving effective for complex retreatments with bone fenestration. This technique offers a reliable solution for secondary corrections involving bone fenestration, combining aesthetic advantages with biomechanical efficiency.
