Ptfe-Modified Personalized Titannium Mesh For In Vivo Osteogenesis
By fabricating polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes on selective laser melting (SLM)-manufactured personalized titanium mesh surfaces, this study aims to optimize the surface modification approach for customized titanium mesh and preliminarily evaluate its osteogenic potential in guided bone regeneration (GBR). Guided bone regeneration (GBR) was performed in the bone defect area by laser selective melting printing of untreated customized titanium mesh (CON), finished titanium reinforced dense polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (TRDP), and polytetrafluoroethylene membrane modified customized titanium mesh (PMTM). The air embolism was performed on the day after operation and 3 months after operation. The bone augmentation effect of GBR was preliminarily discussed by stereomicroscope, hard tissue section and staining. At 3 months after operation, the bone volume fraction (BV/TV) of CON, TRDP and PMTM groups were 26.67±9.28%, 37.03±10.43% and 40.68±5.61%, The bone volume fraction of each group at 3 months was greater than the amount of autologous bone graft ( P< 0.05). The bone volume fraction of PMTM was significantly more than that of CON group (P>0.05), and the bone volume fraction of TRDP group was close to that of PMTM group (P>0.05). The titanium mesh implantation experiment showed that compared with the SLM personalized titanium mesh without special treatment, the polytetrafluoroethylene modified personalized titanium mesh combined with GBR could produce better bone increment effect, which was similar to the finished TRDP group.
