Effect Of Melatonin On Periodontal Tissue Remodeling In Orthodontic Rats

To analyze the effect of exogenous melatonin on the orthodontic tooth movement and the remodeling of periodontal tissue during the relapse process 25 male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups,. A model of mesial movement of the right maxillary first molar was established, and the force application device was removed after 2 weeks. Group A was the control group, and groups B, C, D, and E were the experimental groups. After the removal of the force application device, the rats were intragastrically administered with physiological saline, 1 mg/kg, 5 mg/kg, 25 mg/kg, and 50 mg/kg of melatonin respectively every day . After 2 weeks, the relapse distance of the right maxillary first molar was measured using a stereomicroscope, the remodeling of the periodontal tissue of the first molar was observed by HE staining,Micro CT and comprehensive analysis. With the increase of the concentration, the relapse distance decreased. There were statistical differences among groups (P 0.01), indicating that the intervention of 25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg of melatonin could promote bone remodeling, and the optimal concentration was 25 mg/kg. The results of HE staining et showed that the periodontal ligament cells and trabecular thickness were higher than those in the other three groups, and the differences were statistically significant. The optimal concentration of MT for promoting periodontal tissue remodeling in rats after orthodontic tooth movement is 25 mg/kg. MT can increase the bone volume fraction and promote bone formation.

After 2 weeks, the relapse distance of the right maxillary first molar was measured using a stereomicroscope, the remodeling of the periodontal tissue of the first molar was observed by HE staining,Micro CT and comprehensive analysis.
