Combined Orthodontic And Orthognathic Treatment For Skeletal Class II Mandibular
Skeletal Class II mandibular retrognathia severely impacts patients' physical and mental health, which can only be effectively treated through combined orthodontic-surgical therapy. This study aims to apply combined orthodontic-surgical treatment for skeletal Class II mandibular retrognathia, providing clinical references for practitioners managing such cases. Methods: The treatment protocol involved preoperative orthodontics to align dental arches and eliminate dental compensation, followed by bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSO) advancement and genioplasty to fully correct the skeletal deformity. Postoperative orthodontic treatment was performed to fine-tune the occlusion. For this case, preoperative orthodontic treatment corrected the posterior crossbite of the patient, eliminated occlusal interference, aligned the upper and lower dental arch forms, and closed the extraction spaces. Stable occlusion was rapidly established post-surgery, achieving a satisfactory facial profile. The combined orthodontic-surgical approach successfully improved both facial profile and occlusal function in patients with skeletal Class II mandibular retrognathia, achieving satisfactory therapeutic outcomes.
