Immediate Temporary Restoration Following Veneer Removal: A Case Report
This case report illustrates the digital workflow in anterior aesthetic dentistry for a young female patient who previously underwent porcelain veneer restoration on teeth 14 to 23. The patient presented with concerns regarding the aesthetics of her smile, including excessively long and prominent canines and an overly white dental appearance. To address the patient’s concerns, a digital approach was employed. Collecting digital data using an intraoral scanner, facial scanner, and smile photographs, a virtual patient was created. Then performed virtual design and planning. After the patient being satisfied with the design, the resin shells and a dental guide plate was created in advance. This approach facilitated the same-day removal of the old veneers and placement of temporary restorations, significantly reducing treatment time and simplifying the process. For patients with high aesthetic demands, the process from restoration removal to temporary restoration often requires a significant amount of time, and the clinical workflow can be complex. However, with the assistance of CAD/CAM, designing the temporary restoration with a resin shell and using a guide plate for placement, the resin shell is filled with resin between the tooth and the shell, achieving immediate tooth removal and restoration. This approach simplifies the workflow. Digital design has improved the efficiency of communication between doctors, technicians, and patients, and has streamlined the clinical process.
