Nonsurgical Maxillary Orthopedic Protraction Treatment For Class Iii Malocclusion Adult
For adult patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion, bilateral posterior crossbite, the best treatment usually requires comprehensive orthodontic treatment with tooth extraction, orthognathic surgery, or combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment. However, when patients refuse surgery due to fear or cost concerns, the treatment becomes more challenging. This case report presents a case of an 29years old female patient with skeletal Class III malocclusion, high-angle, and bilateral posterior teeth crossbite with 4.9mm discrepancy in the width of the upper and lower dental arches. It revealed severe bilateral Class III malocclusion, The patient was treated with MSE and FM for orthodontic correction. After 22 months treatment, The teeth were aligned and leveled, the ideal anterior teeth overbite and overjet were established, the incisors and premolars achieved Class I relationship. Overall overlapping display shows that the underwent maxillary anterior traction and mandibular osteotomy. MSE treatment plan is more cost-effective and has lower risks, providing an alternative solution for adult patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion. Insufficient transverse growth of the maxilla poses a challenge in the treatment of adults, as the mid-sagittal suture and the bone sutures around the maxilla have matured and become stable in non-growing patients, resulting in a lower success rate of palatal expansion. we aim to avoid further tooth tilting to prevent functional impairment or negative impact on the integrity of periodontal tissues.
