Hepatitis B Infection Influences The Outcome Of Periodontal Initial Therapy

The study aimed to explore relationship between hepatitis B (HBV) infection and outcomes of periodontal initial therapy. The study included 20 severe periodontitis with HBV infection (Group A, 3060 sites) and 40 severe periodontitis without HBV infection (Group B,5330 sites). Patients received periodontal initial therapy. Collect periodontal clinical indexes including probing depth (PD), attachment lose (AL), bleeding on probing (BOP) and plaque index at baseline (T0) and 1-3 months post-treatment (T1). Sites were classified by PD (shallow: ≤3mm, moderate: 4-5mm, deep: ≥6mm). The reductions of indexes at T1 between groups were analyzed by SPSS 26.0. 1. Among anterior teeth, Group B demonstrated significantly greater PD reductions in moderate [1.35(1.12,1.65)mm versus 1.05(0.39,1.47)mm] and deep pockets [2.66(2.00,3.46)mm versus 1.82(1.22,2.09)mm] (p<0.05). 2. Among posterior teeth, Group B exhibited greater PD reductions in moderate [1.26(1.06,1.37)mm versus 0.74(0.45,1.21)mm] and deep pockets [2.34(2.00,2.75)mm versus 2.00(1.26,2.60)mm], greater reductions in percentage of moderate and deep pockets [30.50%(24.00%,36.00%) versus 10.50%(5.25%,30.00%)] and AL [0.77(0.52,0.99)mm versus 0.33(0.20,0.77)mm] (p<0.05). Our study reveals that HBV infection negatively affects the outcomes of periodontal initial therapy.

Our study reveals that HBV infection negatively affects the outcomes of periodontal initial therapy.
