Old Dentures-Guided Digital Gothic Arch For Single-Jaw Restoration
Accurate determination of centric relation and proper restoration design are crucial for single - jaw full denture restoration. This case explores a novel approach that combines old dentures and digital technologies to achieve optimal restoration outcomes. A patient with a missing mandibular dentition but a complete maxillary dentition complained of chewing difficulties with old dentures. Clinical examination showed an intercuspal position between the maxillary dentition and old mandibular dentures, along with involuntary mandibular retrusion during mouth movement. The goal was to maintain the vertical dimension and correct the horizontal jaw position. Intraoral scanning was used to collect data. A stent - type Gothic arch plate and stylus were designed and 3D - printed. After grinding obstructive areas, the corrected maxillomandibular relationship was recorded. Digital tooth arrangement was then conducted using CAD software. Replicating old denture morphology preserved the patient's neuromuscular adaptability. The Gothic arch provided a reliable method for determining centric relation. Old dentures, thus, play an important role in recording jaw relationships. This case demonstrates that integrating old dentures, Gothic arch technique, and digital technologies can enhance the effectiveness of single - jaw full denture restoration, offering a valuable reference for clinical practic.
