Dynamic Navigation-Assisted Calcified Root Canal Therapy In Maxillary Incisor
Calcified root canal represents a troublesome problem in root canal therapy. Especially for diseased teeth accompanied by periapical periodontitis, whether root canal could be successfully dredged is key for curative effects. Our study reported one case with chronic periapical periodontitis in the maxillary central incisor accompanied by calcified root canal. Corresponding detection unveiled that the middle and upper parts of the root canal have been totally calcified, and that root canal imaging could only be observed indistinctly 3-4mm away from root tip. Dynamic navigation method was then adopted before operation to precisely design ways. Throughout the whole course, dynamic navigation took charge of guidance and dredging, so calcified root canal of the maxillary central incisor was effectively cured, and then the restoration was implemented, reaching fine results according to re-examination 27 months after operation. With the aids of dynamic navigation, doctors successfully completed the opening of dental pulp and the dredging of calcified root canal, which reflected the therapeutic concept of preciseness and lowered therapeutic difficulty. According to in-vitro study, the application of dynamic navigation technique could reach a success rate over 90% in terms of locating and dredging calcified root canal. Our case indicated that dynamic navigation does possess significant advantages in assisting to treat complicated calcified root canal, but it also has some problems. With the continuous development, the dynamic navigation technique would play great roles in treating difficult and complicated pulpal and periapical diseases.
