Digital Complete Denture: Clinical Efficiency And Patient Satisfaction
This case report demonstrates the application of a digital workflow in complete denture fabrication, highlighting its efficiency and patient acceptance compared to traditional methods. A 70-year-old female presented with complete edentulism for several months, complicated by facial paralysis and no prior denture experience. Clinical examination revealed moderate maxillary alveolar bone, flat posterior mandibular ridges, and reduced lower facial height with lip deviation. Two complete denture workflows were used. One is traditional Workflow whick needed 5 visits: Preliminary impression, custom tray fabrication, border molding, final impression, jaw relation record, wax try-in, and final denture delivery. Post-delivery adjustment required for lingual soreness. The other is Digital Workflow which needed 3 visits: Simplified preliminary impression with compound, intraoral scanning combined with preliminary impression scan, 3D-printed custom tray with pre-arranged anterior teeth, border molding, final impression scan, virtual teeth arrangement, and final denture delivery. Post-delivery adjustment for anterior mandibular soreness. Both dentures achieved satisfactory retention and stability. The digital workflow reduced chairside time by 40% and eliminated two patient visits. Key advantages include: Streamlined steps through intraoral scanning and virtual design. Reduced manual labor in tray fabrication and jaw relation recording. Comparable clinical outcomes to traditional methods. Digital complete denture workflow offers a time-efficient alternative with fewer clinical visits, enhancing patient comfort and operational workflow. This approach is particularly beneficial for elderly patients with compromised compliance.
