Effect Virgin Coconut Oil On Porphyromonas Gingivitis, Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteria
Study aims to determine the efficacy of Virgin Coconut Oil in inhibiting bacterial growth. Porphyromonas gingivalis and Staphylococcus aureus as bacterial agents of periodontal disease This research employs an experimental laboratory Post Test Only Control Group Design. Divided into three groups. The initial disc was saturated with VCO and positioned on a petri dish containing media to extract Porphyromonas gingivalis and Staphylococcus aureus. Negative control group using a 0.9% NaCl with both treatment types incubated for 24 hours. Following incubation, a clear zone is observed surrounding the disc in each treatment, assessed using Vernier calipers. The greater the width of the clear zone, the more successful power VCO is at inhibiting bacteria. The study is significant difference in inhibitory (p<0.05) between VCO and treated with 0.9% NaCl. The bacteria Porphyromonas gingivalis average resistance of 11mm when treated with VCO, Staphylococcus aureus average of 10.1 mm. Inhibitory controls negative NaCl 0.9% average of 2.1 mm. The inhibitory effect of effect VCO against Porphyromonas gingivalis is significantly greater than that against Staphylococcus aureus (p < 0.05). These results indicate that VCO can serve as an alternate antibacterial agent in the management of periodontal disease. Virgin coconut oil effectively inhibits of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Staphylococcus aureus. Both bacteria contribute to the development of periodontal disease. VCO is an alternate substance that can be utilized to inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Staphylococcus aureus.
