Clinical Evaluation Of Photodynamic Therapy As Adjunctive Modality In GTR

To evaluate the surgical efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an adjunct to guided tissue regeneration (GTR) in vertical alveolar bone resorption associated with stage III grade A chronic periodontitis Twenty patients treated at the authors' hospital (January 2023–June 2024), who underwent periodontal surgery after initial therapy and met inclusion/exclusion criteria, were randomized into two groups: the test group (GTR+PDT) received GTR with PDT, while the control group received conventional GTR. Probing depth (PD), bleeding index (BI), and clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively Baseline PD, BI, and CAL showed no statistically significant differences between groups (P > 0.05). At 6 months, the test group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in PD, BI, and CAL compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Adjunctive PDT enhances osteogenic outcomes in vertical bone defects treated with GTR for stage III grade A chronic periodontitis.

At 6 months, the test group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in PD, BI, and CAL compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Adjunctive PDT enhances osteogenic outcomes in vertical bone defects treated with GTR for stage III grade A chronic periodontitis.
