Mitochondrial-Macrophage Genes In T2dm And Peri-Implantitis
This study aimed to identify co-morbidity genes linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and macrophage polarisation in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and peri-implantitis (PI). Public microarray datasets (GSE33774, GSE26168) were analyzed, involving human samples with ethical approval. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and macrophage polarisation-related genes (MPRGs) were screened, followed by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), immune infiltration, glycosylation modification, transcription factor prediction, and drug-target interactions were assessed. Two key genes, MMP9 and ARRB2, were identified, both enriched in olfactory transduction pathways. Immune infiltration revealed significant differences in four immune cell types in PI and activated NK cells in T2DM. MMP9 and ARRB2 exhibited glycosylation sites and shared the transcription factor SNAI2, with 54 potential therapeutic drugs predicted. MMP9 and ARRB2 may serve as co-morbidity genes connecting mitochondrial dysfunction, macrophage polarisation, T2DM, and PI, offering novel therapeutic targets.
