Optimizing Post-Surgical Recovery With A 3D-Printed Cyst Plug

Postoperative management of mandibular cystic lesions is challenging. This report details a digital workflow using intraoral scanning and 3D printing to create a custom cyst plug for a left mandibular defect, enabling same-day restoration post-suture removal. A 20-year-old male required a cyst plug following left mandibular cyst decompression. Teeth 34 and 35 were absent, with iodoform gauze placed. Intraoral scans of both dental arches were obtained to fabricate a 3D-printed cyst plug with a 2mm-thick base. The digital workflow allowed for precise customization of the cyst plug, facilitating immediate restoration upon suture removal. This method streamlined the process compared to traditional techniques, improving patient comfort and reducing clinical visits. The successful placement and patient satisfaction highlight the efficacy of this approach. The application of intraoral scanning and 3D printing simplifies the design and manufacturing process of cyst plugs after fenestration, providing a digital alternative to traditional methods. This digital workflow improved patient comfort, reduced the number of clinical visits, and achieved good restoration results
