Association Between Periodontitis And Psychological Stress
To investigate whether there is an association between periodontitis and psychological stress, providing a new perspective for the prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases. From January 20th to February 20th, 2025, 120 patients with periodontitis who visited a certain stomatological hospital were selected and divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups according to the severity of periodontitis. Additionally, 40 healthy individuals were recruited as the control group. With the approval of the ethics committee, periodontal clinical indicators (including the degree of alveolar bone resorption, probing depth, etc) and plasma of all participants were collected. The Psychological Stress Response Questionnaire (SRQ) was used to assess the somatic, emotional and behavioral responses of the participants. The levels of corticosterone (CORT) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in plasma were examined by ELISA. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS.27 to comprehensively analyze the correlation between periodontitis and psychological stress. The scores of SRQ and the levels of CORT and ACTH in the periodontitis groups, were significantly higher than those in healthy control group(P<0.01). The degree of alveolar bone resorption and probing depth were positively correlated with the level of psychological stress(P<0.01). There is a significant association between periodontitis and psychological stress, suggesting that during the treatment and prevention of periodontal diseases. It is necessary to pay attention to the intervention of psychological factors to improve the treatment effect and oral health level.
