Functionalized Titanium Implants Coated With Protein Nanofilms.
To develop surface coatings for Titanium implants and abutments using lactalbumin’s biological properties, leveraging controlled protein aggregation and interfacial adhesion to enhance soft tissue sealing, osteointegration, and antibacterial activity. The study systematically evaluated the lactalbumin-derived amyloid coating across these five dimensions: 1.Material property characterization. 2.In vitro biocompatibility evaluation. 3.Molecular mechanism analysis. 4.Antibacterial performance testing. 5.In vivo transplantation efficacy assessment in animal models. The lactalbumin-derived amyloid coatings demonstrated: Excellent biocompatibility. Potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Enhanced soft tissue sealing and osteointegration via promoting epithelial cell and fibroblast adhesion and osteoblast osteogenesis. The lactalbumin-derived amyloid coatings offers a novel strategy to reduce peri-implantitis risk and improve implant survival rates, showing promising potential for clinical translation.
