Changes Of Palatally Impacted Maxillary Central Incisors Root After Treatment
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the treatment efficacy of palatally impacted maxillary central incisors with the Guide Rod appliance. Eight participants (mean age of 7.88±1.36 years) with unilateral palatally impacted maxillary central incisors were treated with a combination of surgery and orthodontic traction using the Guide Rod appliance. Evaluate the root morphology characteristics, crown height, root length, root canal width, crown-root angle, angle between the teeth crown and palate plane of both palatally impacted incisors and contralateral incisors with Dolphin Imaging software. The palatally impacted incisors root morphology of 8 participants showed a continuous C-shaped curve before treatment. After treatment, the angle between impacted incisors crown and palate plane increased from 26.43±9.63˚ to 109.56±6.84˚ (P= 0.012), 6 impacted incisors root remained C-shaped curve and 2 showed two levels dilaceration. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that the root length of impacted incisors increased significantly (P = 0.012)and the root canal width decreased significantly after treatment(P = 0.012). However, both before and after treatment, the root length of the impacted incisors was shorter than that of the contralateral incisors(P = 0.012). Palatally impacted maxillary central incisors will affect the root morphology and length. Treat the impacted incisors at an early stage enables the teeth to continue develop. After treatment with the Guide Rod appliance, all impacted incisors were well aligned, and the root length increased significantly.
